Advent Activities for Snow Days or Sick Days
We recognize that during the Advent season, we rarely slow down and remember why we celebrate...so we wanted to offer you some ideas on how you and your family could spend time together this Advent season. Below are a list of ways to live into Advent. Thanks for stopping by! May this season bring you peace and joy!
*Light a candle (or light candles for however many weeks of Advent you are in). Turn off the lights and then read John 1:1-9. Talk with your family about where you have seen the light of Christ shining in your lives lately.
*Make cards for those in our church community who could use a little encouragement lately, or for our shut-ins. Our current list of folks who might appreciate a card are: Don, Evie, Margaret & Elmer, and Kay & Neil.
*Make some hot chocolate or another favorite hot beverage. Read together Matthew 25:35-40. Brainstorm as a family ways that you might help those who are hungry or cold or not feeling well. Talk about the ways God has blessed you, and how you might be able to be a blessing to others.
*Go outside and make a snow angel. Come back inside and read Luke 1:26-39. Talk as a family about how you think the angel looked. Draw a picture of an angel. Talk about places where you might have seen angels and either been aware or not aware of them. Talk about some people who have brought the good news to your family. How can you as a family share the good news with others?
*Look through your family photo album, or old pictures on your computer. Talk about the people who are in your family. Read John 14:15-21. Who are some people in your life who might be missing their family this Christmas season? Who are some folks who might be alone and feeling lonely? Make a phone call to these people and remind them that God loves them and so do you!
*Light 4 candles to symbolize the 4 candles of the Advent Wreath, Peace, Joy, Love, and Hope. Read Romans 5:1-5. Have each family member share one place where you have seen hope or felt hope lately.
*Read Psalm 147:1-6. As a family come up with some people who might be feeling broken hearted this holiday season. Bake some cookies, or make some cards for them, and then deliver them, sharing with them that God will mend their broken hearts.
